RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Richmond fire and police are on the scene of a river rescue. The photo taken is from Riverside and 42nd Street.

An initial dispatch states that a canoe capsized and a man and his girlfriend were stuck on a rock, with their dog.

The couple was stranded about 1000 feet away from the Nickel Bridge. The canoe got stuck on the rocks and the male got to shore to call for help. He said he was afraid that the woman and dog might not have been able to negotiate the rocks, and so he left them safely behind.

Richmond Fire has rescued the woman and dog.
