RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A Richmond movie theatre complex will soon be expanding.

Officials announced Tuesday that Bow Tie Cinemas’ Movieland is leasing two new spaces for restaurants or retailers at Boulevard Square.

Streetsense of Bethesda, Maryland and The Wilton Companies of Richmond, the developers of the project, said they have acquired land next to the property and hope to add two new restaurants.

One of the restaurants would move into the Foundry Building, which also houses Movieland.

“The Movieland theater has been highly successful in attracting guests to the theater – over 650,000 each year — but we want to be able to offer the ultimate ‘dinner and movie’ experience for Richmonders,” said Streetsense’s Jeff Pollak, in a news release.

Additionally, the extra land will allow for additional parking spots for the movie theatre.

Boulevard Square makes use of a former locomotive assembly plant and the Foundry Building, which houses MovieLand. The complex opened in 2009.
