Copper thieves hit homes across Richmond

Posted

RICHMOND, VA (WTVR) - Richmond police are asking for the public's help to find the people responsible for a rash of copper thefts from nearly 20 homes across the Richmond area.

Officials said almost all of the homes targeted were vacant and for sale or being foreclosed on.

"We would like to try to stop it, because people want to be able to sell their homes without having to worry about them being damaged," said Richmond Police Detective Mary Paulette.

Police said copper is so attractive to thieves because they can get up to $3 a pound for the metal.

If you see someone suspicious entering a vacant home, please contact police immediately.
