HENRICO, VA (WTVR) – The death of D’Shawn Lewis, hit by a SUV on Nov. 30 has been under investigation by police.

Investigators have concluded that no violation of the law was found on the part of the driver and that no charges will be made.

Investigators determined that the pedestrian, Lewis, failed to cross the roadway as required by law.

Around 6 p.m. Nov. 30, the operator of the SUV came upon Lewis walking in the travel lane. Police said she was unable to stop before striking Lewis.  The crash occurred on Airport Drive, just north of Nine Mile Road in Eastern Henrico.

A makeshift memorial marks the spot where Lewis was hit.

Lewis was a 17-year-old Highland Springs High School student. He was a football player with aspirations to play in the NFL one day.

The day after the deadly accident, students were offered grief counseling to cope with the loss. Many of the high school students had found out through social media.

A candlelight vigil was held and hundreds attended.
