CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- With just three days left until Election Day Tuesday, voters in Chesterfield rushed to the polls Saturday to cast their ballot on the last day of in-person early voting in Virginia.
“I was surprised to see so many people here this morning voting already," Susan Clamp said. “I wasn’t sure what to expect and the line moved pretty quickly though even though the line was out the door.”
Devin Haskins, who also voted Saturday, wanted to show his daughters the process.
“I think it’s a really good opportunity to show them that this is an important thing for us as a country to come out and vote," Haskins said. "Of all the elections, this was one of the elections of really importance."
Both had different issues that are important to them heading to the polls.
"Pro-life and keeping our freedom to worship are two important to me," Clamp said.
"The way the economy is going right now, jobs. A lot of the key issues that are plaguing us as a country," Haskins added.
Chesterfield County General Registrar & Director of Elections Constance Hargrove said nearly 100,000 people have voted in Chesterfield.
"We’re over 98,000 voters just in-person. Overall, we’re at 57-percent for mail and in-person voters," Hargrove explained said.
While the numbers continue to climb, Clamp just hopes everyone makes their vote count.
“I think that there is a lot at stake with this election and, so I was really happy to be able to vote and vote early," Clamp said.
The last day to vote early, in-person in Virginia was Saturday, Oct. 31. Absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, which is Tuesday, Nov. 3. The polls are open on Election Day from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Virginia.
