RICHMOND, Va. -- Your opinion about who won Tuesday night's presidential debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden likely depended on your opinion of each candidate headed into the debate.
Republicans held a debate watch party at a Glen Allen restaurant and cheered when President Trump spoke.
Republican 7th District Congressional candidate Nick Freitas supported Trump's positions and questioned Biden's ideas.
“I think the president has done a good job to explain his approach to things like COVID, his approach to the economy," Freitas said. "Then when you look at the way that Joe Biden is responding. I don’t know how you run on a platform of taxes by four trillion dollars when you got a bunch of small businesses that just survived a pandemic and now they’re supposed to survive your tax policies. Again, if that’s what Joe Biden believes; I think it’s going to be bad for our country."
Meanwhile, Democrats held a statewide virtual watch party online.
Former Virginia Governor Terry McAullife did not mince words when asked his take on the debate.
“Today was one of the scariest things I had ever seen," McAullife said. "The President of the United States acting like that on a debate stage when Americans want answers of how we deal with COVID, how we rebuild this economy. He just looked totally unhinged, it was scary.”
Following an October 7 vice-presidential debate, Trump and Biden are scheduled to debate again October 15 and October 22. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
