POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. -- Court documents reveal what state police found inside the home of the suspect in a deputy-involved shooting in Powhatan County Sunday evening.

Officials with Virginia State Police said troopers executed a search warrant at the home of the suspect, 25-year-old Joshua Sprouse.

Court documents reveal troopers found several different item, including three "smoking devices," a scale, wax paper, and several clear plastic bags with white powder as well as several bags filled with pills.

Deputies said Sprouse allegedly sent threatening messages to his family before shooting a gun off outside his house.

Deputies said when they arrived they tried to talk to him, but he refused and attempted to fire at them.

Investigators said a deputy returned fire, injuring Sprouse.
