Bree Sison returned home to CBS 6 in 2019, after more than a decade of traveling the country professionally as a journalist, as an anchor on CBS 6 News at 4 and an investigative reporter.
Born and raised in the Tidewater area, Bree received a scholarship to study mass communications and politics at Virginia Commonwealth University. An internship at WTVR in 2006 launched her career in TV news.
For three years Bree worked as a one-man-band reporter and anchor at WMBB in Panama City, Florida.
Later, while serving as the morning anchor for WEAR in Pensacola, Bree covered the Gulf Oil Spill of 2010 from the ground and from the air. Field anchoring live for nearly two months straight, she kept viewers up to date on where the oil was and what the Coast Guard and BP were doing to protect the beach.
Her “jack of all trades” approach to the industry prepared her well for the fast-paced news cycle of Boston.
There Bree served as a General Assignment Reporter and anchor at WBZ, the CBS owned station, for four years.
During that time, Bree covered the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary school, the Boston Marathon bombings, manhunt and recovery, the case against Aaron Hernandez, a Red Sox World Series win, a Patriots Super Bowl win, Deflategate, a deadly nationwide meningitis outbreak, and approximately 75 snow storms too many.
Bree also dug into the myriad of issues surrounding mental health, developing an award winning series called “Matters of the Mind.”
Bree self-produced the EMMY nominated pieces, researching several facets of the problem locally and making many deep connections with experts, advocacy groups and patients.
An avid sports fan (#LetsGoVCU), Bree’s fun and light-hearted demeanor helped earn her a New England EMMY Nomination for stories about the Red Sox World Series win in 2013.
Additionally, she served as an integral part of a news team that earned a National EMMY for breaking news, Alfred I. DuPont Award & a Peabody Award in 2014.
Bree has also been recognized with multiple awards from groups in the communities she’s lived and volunteered. She holds a Master’s Degree in Political Management from George Washington University.
Prior to returning to Richmond in August 2019, Bree served as an evening anchor and investigative reporter in Birmingham, Alabama, home of the 20th Special Forces Group.
Bree’s husband (and high school sweetheart) is an Army Green Beret. They welcomed their first (human) child in April 2019.
