EAST GILBERT, Ariz. — A seven-year-old girl was killed and a 14-year-old girl is in the hospital following a freak accident involving a wooden swing set and a swimming pool in Arizona.

It happened in a gated community in East Gilbert near the 2900 block of E. Arrow Head Trail Sunday morning.

KPHO reportsthat family and friends were gathered at a home at Weston Ranch when adults inside the home heard the swing set break around 9:30 a.m.

The swing set had been constructed to allow people to swing from a rope and jump into the pool, according to KPHO.

Fire department officials said that the two girls were outside playing on the swinging rope near the pool when structure snapped.
