Watkins Center Progress
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY - A nearly six hundred fifty acre development in Chesterfield is moving full steam ahead, despite the downturn in the economy.

Shoppers have already made the Watkins Center a part of their routine. A Target, stadium seating movie theatre and Dollar Tree are among the many draws in one phase of the development. It's called Westchester Commons.

That portion has been open for several months.

Amy Berryhill, a leasing agent with Rebkee Realty says it's been a challenge leasing the space in their 30 plus acre area in The Shops at Westchester. Berryhill says her job is to line up retailers to occupy the more than 28 thousand square feet they have available.

She adds, many days are filled with making cold calls to businesses, trying to reel them in. But, Berryhill says they receive many calls from businesses inquiring about locating to the Watkins Center. She believes the location and the quality product they're putting out are two enticing factors that's creating quite a bit of interest from potential tenants.

Right now, Berryhill says they have agreements with Palermo, an upscale Italian restaurant, and Chop Stixx, an Asian Bistro. A nail salon is also set to open in The Shops at Westchester pretty soon.

Rebkee Realty has also completed a CVS drugstore and a nearby Burger King. They also have proposals out with several other businesses, including a big box retailer Berryhill declined to name.

The Watkins Centre is located at the interchange of Route 288 and Midlothian Turnpike in western Chesterfield County.

The mixed use development will also include office buildings, hotels, and homes. Once complete, county leaders say the Watkins Centre development should add nearly eleven million dollars to the county's coffers every year.
