Here are some events for the Fourth of July, and where you can catch some fireworks:
Friday, July 3, 2009
Annual free Genworth "Celebrate Freedom" concert: Featuring the Heritage of America band and fireworks. The free 7:30 concert is on the grounds at Genworth headquarters at 6620 West Broad Street in Richmond. Free parking. NO pets, please.
Saturday, July 4, 2009 The Independence Day Celebration at Dogwood Dell: Richmond's Byrd Park begins at 5 p.m. Fireworks, music and more.
At 5:30, R & B harmonies from Bak N Da Day, a Carillon concert at 6:30 p.m. with the Richmond Concert Band and patriotic melodies, followed by fireworks.
Bring chairs and blankets for extra seating. Good viewing spots south of the river along Riverside Drive.
Extra parking available at the University of Richmond stadium parking lot. A shuttle bus will run to and from Dogwood Dell.
Ashland's July 4 celebration: features a parade led by a color guard of high school students.
Parade is from 11:00 - 11:30 beginning at Henry Clay Elementary School; Lawn Party and Celebration Continue from 11 a.m.-2p.m.
Comcast's Fourth of July Celebration:
Chesterfield County Fairground. Plenty of Children's activities and fireworks.
Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Admission is free.Gates open at 5p.m., fireworks after dark.
City of Colonial Heights Fireworks 9:15p.m. Viewing for the fireworks will be off Interstate 95 Exit 53 or 54 in the Southgate Square/Wal-Mart Area. Bring blankets and lawn chairs. The rain date is Sunday, July 5.
Fort Lee annual Fourth at the Fort Independence Day Celebration: Saturday, July 4 from 2:00 to 10:00 p.m., at Williams Stadium on Lee Avenue.
The event opens at 2:00 p.m. with music from the Wallers and the Fort Lee Army Band, food, and arts & craft festival. KidZone will be FREE from 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. A spectacular fireworks show at 9:35 p.m. Admission is free.
To access Fort Lee, please be ready to show a driver's license, current vehicle registration and proof of insurance. Adult passengers in the vehicle should be ready to show a driver's license or other form of identification.
Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration, 1-5 p.m. at Meadow Farm Museum/Crump Park in Henrico County. Activities will include musical entertainment, arts and crafts, face painting, a petting zoo for children, contests and games, pony rides, and two spectacular sky diving shows with Uncle Sam! Tours of Meadow Farm Museum and the Orientation Center exhibits will be available. Admission is free.
The Hugenot Fire Department hosts their 1st Annual Independence Day Celebration at the Bullnaza Arena in Powhatan. Gates open at 5 p.m. for fire apparatus displays, a car & truck show, lots of Kids' events, food and drink, and a magnificent fireworks show. Kids, bring your bathing suits for the Aqua Tunnel. Admission is $15 per car load, or $10 per car load with a canned food donation to the area food bank.
Celebrate Fourth of July with a bang at Kings Dominion. Along with one of the area's largest fireworks displays, Kings Dominion will feature patriotic music simulcast throughout the park to the show. Included in park admission. Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4.
Boom N July at Busch Gardens : Celebrate with four nights of patriotic pyrotechnic displays at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Included in park admission. Wednesday, July 1-Saturday, July 4.
