Hispanic Job Fair (July 18, 2009)
Richmond -
More than 4,000 people packed the Arthur Ashe Center in Richmond for "La Feria de la Oportunidad", sponsored by the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
According to Michel Zajur, President of the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, estimates 7% of metro Richmond's population is made up of Hispanics. He also says, despite today's economy, employers are looking for billingual workers in virtually every field, i.e. customer service, retail, health, and banking.
27 companies set up booths at the fair today.
"The Hispanic population nationally is larger than the whole population in Canada, and the entire population in Central America", says Zajur. He says today's fair was more than just job seeking opportunities, hundreds also lined up to update their passports while others learned about services available for them and their families.
