Five years and $56 million dollars after groundbreaking, Richmond's newest performing arts center is now open.

Governor Tim Kaine and Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones helped open Richmond CenterStage Saturday afternoon with a special ribbon cutting.

Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones says this is a tremendous day for the city of Richmond. He tells CBS 6 Richmond CenterStage is the people's house and a new way to help diversify the city.

Richmond CenterStage features nine different facilities, including the old Carpenter Center.

More than 200 performers are expected to take the stage at Richmond CenterStage during opening weekend.
