WTKR
Syracuse Police first spotted Matthew R. Nash driving the Hilel's stolen minivan at approximately10:30pm, but were unable to pull him over. A short time later a Sherriff's Lieutenant also spotted and pursued Nash but was forced to abandon the chase due to Nash's reckless driving excessive speed.
The van was later found abandoned and police and a sheriff's helicopter located Nash at about 4:40 am in a wooded area about a mile away.
Nash was arrested without incident and faces charges in New York of possession of stolen property and unlawfully fleeing police. He will be held for extradition by Virginia Authorities to face Virginia Beach warrants charging him with carjacking and abduction.
Court records show that Nash pleaded guilty in 2006 to drug charges and was sentenced to 10 years with eight years suspended. He also was wanted in Camillus, N.Y., on a harassment charge.
