PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, VA -
Virginia State Police is investigating a second fatal crash on Interstate 95 in Prince George County Monday
Early Monday morning an SUV flipped, killing a 12-year-old Maryland girl riding with her family. That accident brought southbound traffic to a crawl. Witnesses tell state police a woman driving a 2007 Ford Taurus in the right lane of Interstate 95 was stuck in that traffic and tried turning left to access an emergency vehicle cut through and turn around.
She did not make it.
State police say as the driver turned her car it was struck in the side by a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero.
The driver of the Taurus, Cora E. Fowler, 82, of Waverly, Va., was transported to VCU Medical Center where she later died. She was wearing a safety belt.
State police would like to remind drivers using emergency crossovers on Virginia interstates is illegal. The crash remains under investigation.
