Here is a statement released today by the Harrisonburg Police Department regarding the three football players who were suspended on Tuesday by head coach Mike London:
The Harrisonburg Police Department continues to investigate an assault that took place on Saturday, January 30 at 1:34 a.m.
Three male victims said they were assaulted by a group of unknown males, who entered an apartment in the 800 block of Port Republic Road. Two victims were taken to Rockingham Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. These victims have since been released.
At this point in the investigation, it appears as though a verbal altercation took place outside the apartment complex amongst several individuals prior to the assault. Through the investigation information was received that the offenders involved were students at the University of Virginia.
On Tuesday, February 8, warrants were obtained and three individuals cooperatively turned themselves in.
Devin Wallace, 20, of Charlottesville was charged with three counts of assault and battery by mob and burglary-entering a dwelling with the intent to commit an assault.
Mike Price, 20, of Charlottesville was charged with three counts of assault and battery by mob and burglary-entering a dwelling with the intent to commit an assault.
Ausar Walcott, 21, of Charlottesville was charged with three counts of assault and battery by mob and burglary-entering a dwelling with the intent to commit an assault.
The Harrisonburg Police Department has worked closely with the University of Virginia Administration and Athletic Department and received nothing but full cooperation and assistance.
This case has been turned over to the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office for prosecution.
Here is the initial release from UVA announcing the suspensions:
Charlottesville, VA Virginia football coach Mike London announced today the suspension of three members of the Cavalier football team. Junior center Mike Price (Chesapeake, Va.), junior linebacker Ausar Walcott (Hackensack, N.J.) and junior cornerback Devin Wallace (Fort Washington, Md.) have been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team.
"The players know the expectations I have for them as student-athletes both on and off the field, and as representatives of both the football program and the University," London said. "I am disappointed in the conduct of these individuals and the fact they chose not to represent themselves in the appropriate manner. They will not participate in any team activities while suspended, but they will continue to attend all study halls and to meet their academic requirements."
