CHANTILLY—
A company called Zero Gravity Corp. is
offering flights that allow people to experience weightlessness
like an astronaut, departing from Washington Dulles International
Airport. One flight is leaving Dulles on Saturday and another departs on July 4. Zero Gravity spokesman Edwin Lorse says the airplane creates true weightlessness.
The pilot performs maneuvers at 34,000 feet, similar to a NASA training experience for astronauts. The Boeing 727 jet climbs and descends quickly, allowing passengers to float freely for a few moments.
The experience costs about $5,000 per person.
The company flies primarily from Las Vegas and two sites near its home base in Florida. But it occasionally schedules flights in Seattle, Los Angeles, New York and Washington.
