CHESTERFIELD -
Some Chesterfield drivers are upset over VDOT's decision to close a stretch of one county road.
Winterfield Road was shut down Wednesday morning so crews could work on a set of railroad tracks. Many drivers living nearby say they had no idea the road was closed.
CBS 6's Shelby Brown spoke with VDOT today to get some answers. Spokeswoman Taya Jarman told her this was emergency repair work that the agency doesn't normally do. The agency even dipped into its maintenance budget to temporarily fix the road because of safety concerns.
Jarman also says VDOT put the information out on its 511 phone system and on the website 511virginia.org.
VDOT tells us this repair work is only a temporary fix.
About 9,000 people use Winterfield Road everyday.
