RICHMOND - Halloween is just a few days away and because it falls on a Saturday this year, it is presenting a potential danger for adults and trick-or-treaters alike.

AAA Mid-Atlantic and the Chesterfield County Fire Dpartment say when Halloween falls on the weekend, more trick-or-treaters and partygoers are likely to be out at the same time. And, AAA says traffic fatalities increase by at least 30%.

Tuesday, both groups were out in Richmond's Westover Hills neighborhood reminding drivers to reduce their speed and asking trick-or-treaters to remain visible by using flashlights or other illumination.

"All motorists need to be careful," said AAA's Martha Mead. "Those young trick-or-treaters will find the lure of candy or a decorated house much more enticing than remembering not to dart out in front of a car."

Chesterfield Fre is also reminding everyone to wear flame retardant costumes and asking them to switch to battery powered LED candles in jack-o-lanterns, rather than using a real candle with a flame.
