SHORT PUMP—
Henrico County police and fire crews searched a Short Pump-area retention pond Wednesday morning and early afternoon. They tell CBS 6 Reporter Jon Burkett they were looking for a gun used in last week's Twin Hickory shooting.
The Henrico Dive Team seached the pond off Old School Road for a rifle used to shoot a man in the face while he stood inside the kitchen of his Park Meadow Lane home. The shooting victim, 54-year-old Terry Nero survived.
Police say the bullet came from outside the home and went through a kitchen window before striking the man's jaw.
Neighbors say they are wondering what's going on and hope it wasn't a random crime. Henrico Police sources say they think the victim was targeted.
One witness tells police which direction the gunman was running and a police K-9 tracked the suspect to the pond.
The search takes well into the afternoon and crews dug through the underwater silt to see if they could find the weapon.
No gun was recovered.
