CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA -
A SWAT team officer is back at work following an internal investigation into a deadly shooting in Chesterfield County in August.
The investigation found the officer was justified in shooting Brett Rivers at an apartment complex. Police say Rivers pointed a gun at an employee and fired shots from inside his home.
Residents at the apartment complex were evacuated while officers tried to negotiate with him.
The SWAT officer shot Rivers and he later died.
Commonwealth's Attorney William W. Davenport concluded, "The officer responded appropriately, and not only was the use of force clearly justified, it was necessary to protect police officers as well as apartment complex residents."
