VDOT Richmond District Says Snow Removal Budget Low
CENTRAL VIRGINIA - The clean up from last weekend's snow storm is far from over, with mounds of snow still sticking around.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says they're still out on the streets plowing 24 hours a day and they have their crews still working 12 hour shifts to try and catch up.

But the cost of cleaning up is taking its toll on VDOT's budget for central Virginia.

Just before the snow started falling last Saturday, VDOT says they had about three million dollars in their snow removal budget for the Richmond District while they are spending about one million dollars a day in clean up costs.

With another massive storm on the way, will a depleted budget force the snow plows to be parked?

VDOT says safety is their first priority and they're working out the budget now, meaning they'll be taking money from other maintenance funds to put towards snow removal.

With the fiscal year ending June 30th, they won't know what other projects could be affected until later this spring.

VDOT says they're also buying hundreds of tons of salt and sand to prepare for a possible storm this weekend.

That's another cost that's been adding up.
