RICHMOND, VA.—
Sheriff C.T. Woody is no stranger to law enforcement, having served the public for over three decades. But now, one of his own employees is coming out against him.
Sources tell CBS 6, a female sergeant within the Richmond Sheriff's office is accusing Sheriff Woody of sexual battery. A woman claiming to be the alleged victim tells me she filed a complaint against Sheriff Woody. The alleged victim says she was called into his office and he forcefully kissed her on the mouth.
According to the Richmond Commonwealth's Attorney's office, a substitute judge has appointed a special prosecutor to investigate this case further.
Thursday, it looked like business as usual outside the Richmond City jail. While our cameras were rolling, Sheriff Woody approached us, wanting to know what we were shooting. That's when we asked him about the alleged sexual battery.
He told CBS 6, "There's no merit or truth to the allegation. It's completely false."
Sources tell CBS 6, the State Police is also investigating this allegation against Sheriff C.T. Woody, but that agency would not confirm it.
A spokesperson released a statement to CBS 6, saying "Because Sheriff Woody is an elected official, policy prohibits us from either confirming or denying if an investigation exists. We have to refer investigative inquiries concerning elected officials to the Office of the Attorney General."
At the AG's office, a spokesperson released a statement saying, "The Attorney General's Office has a standard protocol that we don't confirm or deny investigations, and we don't comment on whether a criminal case is pending."
We tried to reach Sheriff Woody again but we're still waiting to hear back.
CBS 6 is staying on top of this story and we'll keep you updated.
