RICHMOND -
Richmond's new baseball team now has a name.
The team will now be known as the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
The name was just announced at a news conference at Richmond Times-Dispatch headquarters.
It beat out the other names on the list: the Rock Hoppers; Rhinos, the Hushpuppies, and the Flatheads.
The name Hambones had been dropped from the list because the Virginia Chapter of the NAACP found it offensive. Hambone is a type of performance slaves used to do on plantations for slave owners.
Team officials are meeting to go over the new logo and promotions details. They've already selected a Richmond company to handle designing the logo.
As for the team's mascot, there will be another naming contest coming up real soon.
