One Dead After Overnight Fatal Crash

FATAL VEHICLE CRASH IN CHESTERFIELD COUNTY

CHESTERFIELD CO. – An Amelia woman is dead following a single vehicle crash this morning (December 6, 2009) in Chesterfield. At approximately 3:45 a.m., Virginia State Police Trooper A. C. Wood was called to the scene on Route 76, Powhite Parkway, ¾ of a mile south of Route 60, Midlothian Turnpike.

A 2001 Dodge Dakota was traveling south on Route 76 when the vehicle ran off the road to the right, overcorrected and ran off the road to the right again striking the guardrail. The vehicle then traveled along the guardrail for 40 feet before overturning onto its roof.

The driver, Jennifer O. Smith, 38, of Amelia was not wearing her safety belt and died at the scene. Her passenger, Jackie C. Chambers, 40, of Farmville, was not wearing her safety belt and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. Chambers was transported by ambulance to VCU Medical Center.

The crash remains under investigation but alcohol is a factor in the crash.

DECEASED DRIVER: Jennifer O. Smith, 38, of the 12000 block of Old Chula Road, Amelia, Va.

INJURED PASSSENGER: Jackie C. Chambers, 40, of the Eastgate Mobile Home Park, Farmville, Va.
