CHARLOTTESVILLE -
A search is underway in Charlottesville, for missing Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington.
Around 10:00am Friday morning, 200 volunteers along with Harrington's parents, reported to a resource center where they were later dispatched to areas near the John Paul Jones arena.
The arena was the last place Harrington was seen, before she went missing October 17. She was in town for a Metallica concert but ended up outside the arena and was unable to regain entry.
The volunteers were broken up into teams Friday. Their goal to fan out and cover as much ground as possible, including nearby wooded areas.
A total of 450 people voluntarily registered to take part in a three day search for Harrington this weekend. It will last until volunteers get tired or the sundown.
They're being asked to look for items of clothing Harrington was last seen wearing. The list includes:
-Black t-shirt with the band name Pantera
-Black mini-skirt
-Black tights
-Knee-high black boots
-Necklace
Searchers are asked not to touch anything but instead call the tip line, 434-352-3467, set up in this case.
The weekend search for Morgan Harrington was set up by the Laura Recovery Center, based in Texas. The organizer started the group as his daughter Laura went missing in 1997. She was 12 when she disappeared. Her remains were found 20 days later - due in part to volunteer search efforts.
