RICHMOND - Governor-elect Bob McDonnell vows to come through on his pledge to reopen the rest stops recently closed by VDOT.

A McDonnell spokesperson confirms that the republican will reopen those shuttered rest areas within 90 days of taking office. It was a promise he made on the campaign trail.

Nearly 20 rest stops were shut down earlier this year. It was a move designed to save the state millions of dollars.

But many drivers and travel groups like AAA believe the move has made conditions more dangerous on state roads.
