RICHMOND - Wednesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement wrapped up its summer enforcement surge with the announcement of 87 arrests of illegal immigrants who were convicted of prior crimes.

Most of the arrests occurred in northern Virginia.

Director of ICE's Washington Field Office, Henry Lucero, said most of those arrested were convicted of crimes committed here in the US, including robbery and drug possession. However, some were more serious offenders, including three sex offenders and a member of the MS13 gang.

Lucero says some of the arrested immigrants will be deported and ICE is working with Customs and Border Protection to make sure those who are deported, do not return to the US.

Lucero said none of those rounded up was a terrorist or posed a threat to national security.
