GLEN ALLEN—
Often, doctors prescribe prescription drugs to help people with their spring allergies. But now some people are turning to a more natural treatment for help, honey.Jane Fare goes to Lavender Fields for help. It's a herb farm in Glen Allen. Fare says she's tried all kinds of prescription medication. But she tells us nothing works like honey.
Local honey producers believe their honey helps allergy sufferers in Metro Richmond because they are pollinated by bees in our area. They say the bees eat things that don't agree with some people.
Lavender Fields Honey Farm expects to sell more honey this year than ever. That's because allergies are expected to be worse this year because of the cold, wet winter.
Doctors, meanwhile, still have mixed opinions whether honey can help allergy sufferers. One doctor we spoke with today says there's not a lot of research out there to show honey can help. But he says it doesn't have any side effects it can't hurt to try it.
