HENRICO -
A single vehicle crash in Henrico took the life of a female driver.
It happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the Short Pump area of the county.
Henrico Police tell CBS 6 a police officer observed a sedan traveling east on Broad Street at high speed.
The officer witnessed the driver disregard the red signal and continue through an intersection. The officer put his lights on and proceeded to follow the driver, when the vehicle turned onto Springfield Road.
The driver entered a curve at the intersection of Jones Road and failed to negotiate the curve. The driver went into the wood line and hit a tree.
Henrico Fire & EMS responded to the scene and extracted the driver from the vehicle. She was transported to the hospital and underwent surgery, but died from her injuries Sunday morning.
Her identity is not being released at this time pending the next of kin.
The crash team is still actively investigating this accident to determine whether drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the crash.
