HENRICO—
The Henrico School Board approves the district's budget for next year.In all, school leaders cut $34 million dollars from their spending plan. That includes an additional $17.5 million that was announced just this week.
So what does that mean for students and teachers in Henrico?
In all, 100 positions, many teaching positions, will be cut. But that doesn't mean layoffs. Most will be lost through attrition. Teachers have also lost half of their tuition reimbursement program.
The average class side will also increase. But it will be by less than one student.
And the district is reducing contributions to the Maggie Walker Governor's School and the Math Science Center by 6%.
After tonight's budget vote, School Superintendent Patrick Russo spoke exclusively with CBS 6. He tells us the school did the best they could under the circumstances. Russo says his goal was to protect jobs and all academic and co-curricular programs. He feels school leaders did that well.
