RICHMOND, VA (WTVR) - Food Lion, Martin's, Walmart and Kroger top the list of stores where most people around Richmond, Virginia buy groceries.
Food World, a trade magazine that covers the grocery industry, breaks down the Richmond grocery market in its June issue.
According to Food World, Food Lion and Martin's have lost market share since 2010.
Food World reports Kroger has gained market share in the last year.
According to its research, Food Lion's 18% market share is the highest of any grocery store in Richmond.
There are more Food Lion stores in the Richmond area than any other supermarket.
Food World counted 51 Food Lion locations in what it considers the Richmond market. The Richmond market includes Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico and New Kent counties.
Food Lion's market share fell one percent point from 2010.
