Amelia County -
Burglars ransack an Amelia county home taking off with electronics, jewelry, and the family pets.
When Tina Puryear walked into her home, she was shocked at what she saw. "I walk in and everything is dissarayed, the house is, you know, tore up." While she was out running an errand, thieves used a crowbar to get in though a living room window. "I''m scared to death. Frightened, violated, just the whole thing. My next instinct is to go check on the dogs, because I didn't hear them barking."
Nikkie, a 7-year old Maltese, and Indie., a 3-year old Yorkie, were gone. So was a television and ever piece off jewelry her husband had bought her in their 30 years of marriage. But her most precious jewels, are the dogs. They're more like kids than pets.
Tina canvased local stores with posters of her missing dogs... and her hard work payed off. On a nearby road, a driver saw two little, furry bodies huddled in a wet, muddy ditch. It was Nikki and Indie. "Nikki's very happy to be home, very happy. Indie is a little more traumatized, but very happy to be home. We're empty nesters, and this (the dogs) is what gets all of our love and attention now."
It's odd the crooks would abandon the dogs in a ditch, because before they left, they took the dog treats with them. "They took everything that belonged to the animals", says Tina. "All their sweaters, coats, bows, everthing that i've collected over the years., which made me think they planned on keeping them."
Amelia County investigators say they've lifted good fingerprints from the window the thieves broke into, and they're following some leads.
