A Henrico family is reunited with a beloved pet nearly two months after he vanished during a trip to North Carolina.
Leroy the Dachshund ran off during a family vacation in Advance, NC back in August. For three days, until the time the family had to return home, they searched in vain for the little dog.
But the search didn't stop there. When they returned home, they pored over "found dog" web sites, animal shelter websites and even posted an ad on Craigslist with no luck.
Fast forward nearly two agonizing months to this past Tuesday. A couple from Hillsborough, NC, 80 miles from where the dog was last seen, posted an ad on Craigslist about a Dachshund they had found. It was Leroy.
Robert Williams of Glen Allen immediately made the drive to Hillsborough to pick up his four-legged friend.
He says, "It's like any father looking at a child they haven't seen in a long time. All you want to do is hold him in your arms and kiss him and hug him and that's what I did.
A church pastor and his wife from Hillsborough found Leroy, took him to the vet and even picked up the tab for the treatment. He had suffered a broken leg, cuts and bruises and dehydration.
They refused to allow Leroy's owners to reimburse them for the vet bill; so instead, a donation was made in the same amount to that couple's church.
Leroy is now back at home in Glen Allen recovering from his adventure. He is expected to be just fine.
