SPOTSYLVANIA - Jermaine Johnson, 29-year-old father of four, was arrested Monday when he allegedly poured a bleach type cleaning product into the drinks of two co-workers at a Spotsylvania Denny's. Johnson faces two counts of altering a drink with intent to harm.

Police say Johnson admitted to doing it.

However, his aunt says his confession has much more behind it. Wanda Burruss believes that her nephew, Jermaine Johnson, was set up. She says the two co-workers, who allegedly had their drink tampered with, had been harassing him on the job. "He would not do anything to jeopardize his job at Denny's. I'm going to tell you that now. His job and his kids are his life."

Burruss says they were calling him racially insensitive names and sending Johnson threatening text messages until he confronted them. Burruss said "that {text messages} said something is going to go down on Monday. He said when he got to work, they confronted him and started messing with him and just backed him into a corner."

That's when his Aunt says Johnson sprayed a cleaning agent with bleach near the waiter's station where two co-workers had left their drinks. Burruss said, "he never poured...the only thing he told me was that he sprayed the bottle, never a pour." However, police say Johnson admitted to "pouring" the solution into their drinks.

Police also say the Johnson first claimed that he must have accidentally gotten the bleach into the drinks while he was cleaning the station. He later confessed. "At first, he denied having any kind of involvement in the incident. But through investigation, through communication, he eventually admitted to pouring the bleach on purpose," said Captain Bill Gill, Spotsylvania Sheriff's office. Police were called to the Denny's after two employees told the manager that their drinks tasted like they had been tainted with bleach.

Burruss stands behind her nephew and said, "Jermaine is a sweet person. It is not like him at all. He just love his kids." Burruss says he wouldn't do anything to jeopardize his children or his job and "he doesn't deserve to go to jail, to leave his kids for 5, 10, to 20 years because of something stupid."

Johnson is being held at Rappahannock Regional jail with no bond. CBS 6 attempted to speak with Denny's management but they had no comment and police say those employees were not seriously hurt.

If found guilty these charges could get him up to 40 years behind bars. ______________________________________________________________________________________
