Chesterfield Schools Adjusting Some School Days
CHESTERFIELD - During the current nine-week grading period, snow and ice have caused Chesterfield County schools to close for six days and open late on two days. To make up some of that instructional time, Chesterfield is adjusting its academic calendar:
  • March 17 and May 5, which were scheduled to be three-hour early release days for students, will now be full instructional days for students.
  • April 12, the Monday after spring break, will now be a school day for students. This had been scheduled as a teacher workday and student holiday.
"While Chesterfield County's school calendar surpasses the state's minimum requirement of instructional hours, my staff and I are concerned that students have lost what amounts to more than a week's worth of teaching and learning right at the start of second semester," Superintendent Marcus Newsome said.

Chesterfield schools were closed Feb. 1-3, Feb. 5, Feb. 8 and Feb. 10 (high schools and some middle schools were open Feb. 10) and opened two hours late on Feb. 4 and Feb. 11.
