A new warning system for Richmond Public School bus drivers, but will they be ready?

The school district has spent $30,000 to outfit nearly 200 buses in its fleet with Child Reminder Systems. CBS 6 caught up with maintenance engineers installing the new system at the district's bus depot on Belt Boulevard, the same place where a four-year-old boy was discovered after accidentally being left on a school bus back in July.

They put black modules on each bus and installed new wiring that connected the lights, horn, buzzer and doors. This will activate the system when the driver turns off the bus.

The lights will come on signalling the bus driver to walk to the back of the bus, check every seat, and then turn off the alarm to deactivate the system once they've verified there are no students on board.

There are 186 bus drivers and 60 bus monitors who are being trained on the new system to be ready for the start of school next week.
