DOWNTOWN RICHMOND—
A small group of anti-racism protesters gathered Friday afternoon at Kanawha Plaza in downtown Richmond.Comments were apparently made on the Internet, leading the crowd to believe that there would be a white supremacist rally. There were also threats of violence.
CBS 6 spoke with Richmond Police spokesman Gene Lepley about the department's reaction to these sorts of threats.
"We take a look at all the groups that may pose a threat in some way to the citizens of the city of Richmond," said Lepley. "And we do have a homeland security element in the department that takes a look out over the broad landscape and sees what might affect us directly in the City. And we take all those seriously and we prepare for them so that we're ready in case something should happen."
