AMELIA COUNTY -
A 6-year-old Amelia County girl has died from complications from the swine flu. Family members said that Heaven Skylar Wilson passed away Wednesday night at CJW Medical Center.
Tears streamed down Sara Wilson's face as she spoke about her daughter's death to CBS 6 reporter Jon Burkett Thursday night. Wilson said her little girl's last words were, "Please don't let me die."
A first grader at Amelia County Elementary School, Heaven died after a nearly two-weeklong stay at the hospital. Her grandmother originally took the little girl to see a doctor in Amelia back on October 8, according to family members. They say the girl was treated and released. The next day, she was rushed to the hospital with a 104-degree temperature.
Officials with CJW confirm that Heaven's death was related to the H1N1 virus.
The Amelia County school system sent home letters about the death to parents on Thursday, but one parent told CBS 6 that there was no mention of H1N1. Last Friday, nearly 330 students in the school district were absent.
Sara Wilson said that she wants answers from the doctor who first examined Heaven. Wilson has two other children, including a son who also attends Amelia County Elementary School. Wilson says that he has flu-like symptoms and was checked out at Bon Secours Thursday afternoon.
