HENRICO -
An adoption ceremony will take place on Friday, July 16 at 9 a.m. for the infant who was abandoned in front of an eastern Henrico home on August 27.
The boy, almost a year old, has been in foster care through Henrico's Department of Social Services since he was found last August.
The foster parents will now become permanent, legal adoptive parents in this court proceeding with Henrico Circuit Judge Gary A. Hicks presiding.
ORIGINIAL REPORT (September 1, 2009):
Henrico Police are still searching for the mother of a newborn boy found abandoned in the county's East End last week.
They've canvassed the neighborhood and contacted local hospitals but there's still no sign of her and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Henrico Social Services director Jane Crawley tells CBS 6 the baby boy is recovering in the hospital and if his family isn't found and doesn't come forward, he will be placed in a foster home until they find someone ready to adopt him.
The family caring for the child must follow some strict guidelines.
Crawley says they are looking for someone who is warm and willing to take in a child and pass the necessary records check. Crawley says, "No felonies or anything that would indicate that there would be any potential harm or future harm done to a child."
Adoptive parents have to go through a nine-week training session before it's a done deal.
If you have any information that can help police find the baby's mother, call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
