It was a frightening scene for parisioners at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Henrico County Sunday morning.
A mass was cancelled and the property evacuated while authorities investigated a suspicious bag that was left outside next to the building.
Henrico police responded when the church reported it just after 10:00 a.m.
Police first tried to x-ray the contents of the bag, but that process was ineffective due to cold temperatures.
The bag was then detonated, so that authorities could see it's contents.
It turns out nothing harmful was inside, but authorities say the process worked as it should. Authorities were able to quickly determine who the bag belongs to and perhaps why it was left there.
