RICHMOND—
A day after losing a fundraiser with former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, Bob McDonnell's Republican gubernatorial
campaign announced two big-name fundraising events.Whitman, a Republican running for governor in California, had been under pressure at home to cancel the Virginia event with McDonnell because of a stridently conservative college thesis he wrote in 1989.
Copies of Sept. 24 e-mails between Whitman and McDonnell staffers show a McDonnell aide missed a deadline for providing Whitman's campaign logistical details. The Associated Press obtained copies of the e-mails from McDonnell's campaign.
But Sen. John McCain and football coach Lou Holtz will visit Virginia to help McDonnell raise money. McCain will do a Hampton Roads veterans event Oct. 17, and Holtz visits Richmond Oct. 26.
