Rob Cardwell- Anchor

Rob Cardwell anchors CBS 6 News Live at 5, CBS 6 News at 5:30.

I was born in the beautiful city of Tampa, Florida. After graduating from Plant City High School I joined the United States Air Force to pursue my dream of becoming a dentist. But after a couple of years elbow-deep in other people's mouths I decided a career change was in order.

In 1990 I was accepted for cross-training and became a distinguished graduate of the Armed Force's Defense Information School in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Air Force immediately shipped me to Osan, South Korea where I did a morning radio show (Good Morning, Osan!) and reported for the Armed Forces Korea Network television news in the afternoon.

In 1991 I was stationed at Tyndall AFB in Panama City, Florida. It was there I left the Air Force and began working for WJHG TV-7 as a reporter and anchor. During my seven years there I rode out hurricanes, covered local and state politics, crime and anchored both the morning and evening newscasts. With an outstanding news team I was proud to win individual and station Associated Press recognition. During that time I also freelanced for Current Affair, CNN, CBS radio, Live with Geraldo Rivera and was the newsman for a local Talk Radio station.

It was also in Panama City that I met and married my beautiful wife Debra. In 2001 we decided to leave the panhandle for the southern charm of Richmond. I accepted a job as anchor for CBS 6 This Morning and the station's consumer reporter. I now anchor the 5:00 and 5:30 newscasts with Julie Bragg. It was an honor to be the only area news anchor nominated for an emmy in 2007.

I'm a member of Ironbridge Baptist Church in Chester, Virginia and I'm involved with a number of annual local events and fund-raisers for state and community organizations. I'm also very involved the Read Aloud Virginia program and encourage all parents to take as much time as they can to read and spend quality time with their children. In my spare time I enjoy camping, fishing, golf, spending time with Debra and my son Jacob...and most importantly...cheering for my hometown Tampa Bay Buccaneers!
