Angela Pellerano- Weekend Anchor |
Weekend Anchor 6 & 11; Reports Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday Nights.
Richmond rocks. I must say that I feel fortunate to be working in such a cool, historic city - one that has both a small town and big city feel to it. It's also great to have landed at a station with so much creativity, energy and camaraderie.
The trail leading to Richmond started in Cienfuegos, Cuba, a coastal city once occupied by the French. My father, my "hero", escaped Castro's Cuba and brought all of us to America. My father, who died in 2006 - also saved my life shortly after I was born. I had trouble breathing, and when the doctors left me for dead - he resuscitated me and that's why I'm here today - part of a beautiful family, and doing a job I truly love.
I've been in the news business for more than a decade, winning Emmys along the way and finding great satisfaction in building trust with the people I interview. I care deeply about people, and make every effort to present them fairly in every story I write.
I started in the news business in Miami, where I interned at a Hispanic television station. From there I moved to WFOR in Miami, where I was hired as an Investigative producer. Working on the Emmy-winning Hidden Harvest series and another five-part investigation about Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease made me realize how important a role reporters can play in dealing with some of the problems facing society.
My next stop was at KARE-11 News in Minneapolis, MN., which was a great opportunity for a young journalist because of its legendary emphasis on visual storytelling. That paved the way for my next reporting job at WXII in Winston-Salem, N.C., where I got my first shot at anchoring and where I really learned how to develop and appreciate sources. Best of all, I learned how to harness the emotional involvement I feel for my stories. As anyone who knows me will tell you, I'm a passionate person.
I came here to join CBS 6 because of WTVR's top management. Their newsroom philosophy fit mine, and I also get to do both jobs I love - reporting and anchoring.
You can see my news reports Monday through Wednesday nights and I anchor the evening news on Saturday's and Sundays.
On a personal note, I'm a devout animal welfare advocate. Camping, snow skiing, art, reading, history, and spending time with family are among my passions.
We have a lot of fun at CBS 6. There's always something cool going on - like singing with my co-workers, and trying to beat co-worker Jon Burkett to the Top story.
